Sofer Yerman examines the scroll

Summer 2022

A Torah Committee is assembled and work begins with our two soferim, Sofer Neil Yerman and Soferet Julie Seltzer. Randy Hirschtick and Sofer Yerman visit Israel BookShop owner Chaim Dovek (son of Eli Dovek) and purchase our scroll. Our year of Torah, “Together in Torah” is born. In conversation with Torah volunteers, the project is named by Louise Domenitz and the logo is designed by Lara Riehle and Rachael Fagin.

Our theme for the year, Together in Torah, encompassed the once-in-a-lifetime experience of scribing a Hebrew letter into our beautiful Torah scroll, as well as a wide variety of programs designed to provide opportunities for every person in our community to engage with the creation of this new scroll, in ways that were meaningful for them.
