Discussion: White Supremacy, Antisemitism, and the Role of Jews in the Movement for Black Lives
Thursday, February 11, 2021, 07:00pm - 09:00pm

In honor of Black History Month and our Congregational Theme for 5781, "Justice, Justice, You Shall Pursue: Working Together Towards Racial Justice," BETC Adult Learning invites you to a discussion led by our own temple member Greg Jobin-Leeds. We will explore:
- How antisemitism is central to white supremacy
- The meaning and implications of “defund the police”
- How we, as Jews, can make our country safe for Black people

To prepare for the program, please do two pieces of homework, so that we all come with a common understanding:
1. Listen to "Fighting the Common Enemy of White Supremacy" with Stosh Cotler of Bend the Arc. This important interview is about anti-Semitism and why the Jewish community stands up for Black and brown rights.
2. Read Eric Ward’s article: "Skin in the Game: How Antisemitism Animates White Nationalism."

Greg Jobin-Leeds is co-author of the book "WHEN WE FIGHT, WE WIN!: Twenty-First-Century Social Movements and the Activists That Are Transforming Our World," and co-host of the newly released podcast series, "When We Fight, We Win!: The Podcast." Greg is the co-founder and first president of the award-winning Schott Foundation for Public Education. As a son of Jewish refugees fleeing the Nazis, he has been engaged in struggles in Boston, New York City, Puerto Rico and Central America. Greg frequently shares his stories as a teacher, author, funder, and inspirational speaker at justice organizations, foundations, universities, high-school, and religious groups.

Greg has been a winner of the BETC Social Action Committee’s Jonathan Jacoby Tikkun Olam (JJTO) Award, and many others.
