"The Promise and Peril of New Technologies"

Never mind self-driving cars. The latest technological innovations include artificial embryos, machines that dream, and the possibility that babies will get genetic “report cards” at birth. What might these and other recent and emerging technological breakthroughs mean for the future of life on our planet – and for us?

A geneticist, molecular biologist, and mathematician, he has played a pioneering role in the reading, understanding, and biomedical application of the human genome. He was a principal leader of the Human Genome Project. Lander is professor of biology at MIT and professor of systems biology at Harvard Medical School. Co-chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology from 2009-17, .Lander’s many honors include the Westinghouse Prize, a Rhodes Scholarship, and a MacArthur Fellowship.
