Sunday School Tzedakah Fair
Sunday, 07 February 2010, 9:00am

The Annual BETC School Tzedakah Fair is Sunday, February 7

It will be held in place of regular Religious School.

Tzedakah shares a root with the Hebrew word tzedek, meaning justice or righteousness. Thus tzedakah is an act of justice or righteousness. In the Jewish tradition, all people (including those who are less fortunate than we are), have the legal right to food, housing, and clothing. By supporting organizations that work to provide these legal rights to individuals in need, we take a step toward greater justice in this world. In light of the financial hardships and high unemployment rates that are a part of our current economic climate, our theme this year is “lifting the fallen”. Our Fair always includes organizations that support both the most basic of human needs and other social and emotional needs, which the children in our Religious School Community view as essential as well. In other words, we support organizations that might, for example, help create self-sustaining livelihoods for adults plus others that meet less physical essential needs, such as providing children with moments of joy & celebration.
