Brotherhood

Through our Brotherhood programs, men who are members of our congregation contribute to the Temple and make lasting friendships. This coming year, we plan to have more opportunities for us to connect with one another.

Along with our regular meetings/gatherings, we have a number of events scheduled including a Friday night Brotherhood Shabbat Service and the annual Hanukkah Latke party and contest.

Additionally, as in past years, we will:

  • Build two Sukkahs for our community
  • Get together at local restaurants or the shul, with no agenda except to connect with one another.
  • Attend sporting events. (In the past we have seen the Celtics, the Lowell Spinners and the PawSox.)
  • Distribute Holocaust memorial candles and raise money in conjunction with our annual Yom Hashoah service. Past beneficiaries have included the producers of the Holocaust film "Rene and I" and the work of Yad Vashem for the Righteous Gentiles.
  • Assemble the 6-foot high Menorahs at the front of our Temple to celebrate Hanukkah.
  • Send Hanukkah celebration packages to Jewish soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
  • Host the Hanukkah latke party for 300, with latke and menorah contests.
  • Host the Winter Bowling party for the kids (and their parents) at Lanes & Games.
  • Watch movies, such as the award-winning “From Philly to the Front,” a documentary about Jewish war veterans and “Ushpizim,” an Israeli movie.
  • Host the Sunday-School year-end picnic for all the teachers, parents, and kids.

The Brotherhood has a very active Men's Book Club that reads and discusses books about Jewish themes or history. In the past, we have had guest speakers, including Murray Greenberg, author of “Passing Game: Benny Friedman and the Transformation of Football.”

I would be very happy to talk with you about joining us.
